Here Are The Major Programs Of The International Wellness Institute...

  EFT or Emotional Freedom Therapy

EFT which stands for Emotional Freedom Therapy, is also referred by some as Tapping. EFT is a form of psychological acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments for over five thousand years, but without the invasiveness of needles.

Emotional Freedom Therapy Technique consists of some simple tapping techniques that can be learned in a very short time and used for everything! EFT is an elegant and simple technique that works with your own body's energies for physical, emotional pain and stuck energy; EFT can also be used to calm and soothe the mind, body and spirit.

The International Wellness Institute uses EFT as a front line tool of helping clients overcome issues. We have found that EFT may be the only technique needed to produce the results that clients want in a short period of time, sometimes even in only one session.

EFT Tapping Research – More Effective and at Least 5 Times Faster

The first large-scale preliminary clinical trial of EFT Tapping Therapy (MTT, Meridian Tapping Techniques) is reported in some detail in Energy Psychology Interactive and summarized here.

Approximately 5,000 patients diagnosed at intake with an anxiety disorder were randomly assigned to an experimental group (EFT) or a control group (Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) with medication, which is traditionally considered the therapy of choice). Here are the results:

Outcome Comparisons
With 5,000 Anxiety Patients at Close of Therapy

  CBT / Medication EFT
Significant Improvement 63% 90%
Complete Relief From Symptoms 51% 76%
Average Number of Sessions 15 3

At one year follow-up, the patients receiving EFT treatments were less prone to relapse or partial relapse than those receiving CBT/medication, as indicated by the independent raters assessments and corroborated by brain imaging and neurotransmitter profiles.

Please Note: EFT was not only significantly more effective, it also needed far fewer sessions (5 times faster).

Most EFT Practitioners personal success rate is over 98% getting significant relief, and they find EFT to typically be 10 to 20 times faster than other methods.

Note: According to Dr. Bob Schwartz, PhD, the executive director of The Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology, there are actually more than 60 peer reviewed studies, 20 double blind randomized studies, proving a success rate of 98%!

ARE YOU...

*   Struggling with stress, anxiety, or pain?
*   Dealing with addictions, traumas, or other major challenges?
*   Feeling Stuck? You know what to do but you just can't seem to do it?

The Emotional Freedom Technique Is A Powerful Tool for Relieving Negative Emotions and Pain.

The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT - also known as "Tapping Therapy" or "Meridian Tapping Techniques (MTT)") was created by Gary Craig and works like emotional acupressure to quickly, gently and easily release the negative emotions and beliefs that are at the root of all our problems and pain. EFT heals emotional problems by literally undoing the damage from the past.

Traditional Psychotherapy vs. The Emotional Freedom Techniques

With traditional talk Psychotherapies you gain insights into the causes of your emotional difficulties and the new behaviors you would like to have. However, you are left needing to use your will power to try to behave in these new healthier ways. You still feel the internal urges in your "gut" to behave in the old ways. The result is an ongoing internal struggle between your gut feelings and your will power. This is very hard and progress can be very slow, sometimes taking years or even never.

The EFT Tapping Therapy Advantage

EFT Tapping Therapy doesn't have this problem. After working through an issue using EFT, you come out feeling different and you actually are different. Your gut is no longer telling you to behave in the old unhealthy ways. New behaviors are now natural because there is no internal struggle - you have changed inside and are a different person around this issue. The struggle is over.

EFT is dramatically faster than other methods and is highly effective. EFT has been shown to only take weeks to months to get relief and experience deep healing, instead of months to years (or never) with traditional psychotherapy.

EFT has been effective in thousands of cases for emotional and physical healing by balancing the body's energy system (see the following examples):

  Hypnotherapy or Hypnosis

What is Hypnosis?   It's not like what you see in the movies.

Hypnosis is a natural state of selective, focused attention, and, even though it is 100% natural and normal, it remains one of the most fascinating phenomena of the human mind. Our ability to enter this unique state of consciousness opens the door to countless possibilities for healing, self-exploration and change. Hypnosis, called by different names in different cultures and times, has been recognized for thousands of years and used for many purposes.

Hypnotherapy was approved by the American Medical Association in 1985. It is recommended by the American Cancer Society, The National Institute of Health and is used in many healthcare facilities around the world, including the Mayo Clinic.

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention. You enter into a hypnotic state every day. When you are reading a novel, watching a movie, or floating off into a daydream. You are also in the hypnotic state during those twilight moments entering into sleep. In Hypnotherapy, we work together to utilize this state to create positive change.

The stated goal of Hypnotherapy is to implant images and memories that help people overcome some hardship. When a smoker thinks of a cigarette, the image of pride for having quit smoking overtakes the image of desire. When someone who is afraid of water gets on a boat, she goes to an image of peace instead of the memory of nearly drowning when she was six.

When we enter into the absorbed state of hypnosis, we can use our thoughts, talents and experiences in ways not usually available to us. With the help of a trained professional, we can develop innate, individual abilities that enable making desired changes in our thoughts, feelings and behaviors possible. For reasons that are as yet not clear, the focused state of hypnosis allows changes to intentionally be made "automatically", changes that we could not ordinarily consciously make.

Hypnosis has been used in the treatment of pain, depression, anxiety, stress, habit disorders, and many other psychological and medical problems. However, it may not be useful for all psychological problems or for all patients or clients. The decision to use hypnosis as a component of treatment can only be made in consultation with a qualified healthcare provider who has been trained in the use and limitations of clinical hypnosis.

In addition to its use in clinical settings, hypnosis is used in research with the goal of learning more about the nature of hypnosis itself, as well as its impact on sensation, perception, learning, memory, and physiology. Researchers also study the value of hypnosis in the treatment of physical and psychological problems.

How can a treatment aimed at your mind affect your body?

The body responds physically to thoughts. For example, when we think a frightening thought, we can experience increased heart rate, shortness of breath, "butterflies" in the stomach, muscular rigidity, sweating, shaking, and so on. Similarly, when we think a pleasurable thought, we can experience reduced heart rate, deeper breathing, relaxation of muscles, and so on. These are autonomic nervous system responses that are involuntary, but they can be utilized to promote health. When hypnotized, an individual is very open to suggestions that can enhance positive and diminish negative physical reactions.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

Yes, some people find it easier to relax than others. By the same token, some people are able to go into trance more quickly and more deeply than others. About all people can go into at least a light trance. For most therapeutic goals, light trance is enough to enable almost everyone to benefit from hypnotherapy to some extent.

In a relatively small number of situations, (say, when hypnosis is being used instead of a general anesthetic, e.g., as in labor and childbirth}, a deeper level of trance may be needed. For these purposes, it is helpful to determine the trance capability of a given person, before making a decision about the advisability of using hypnosis as an anesthetic.

Can children be hypnotized?

Because children are naturally imaginative, they naturally and easily engage in hypnosis and respond well to hypnotic suggestion for a wide variety of problems, e.g., self- esteem issues, anxiety, behavior problems, habit change, and certain medical issues. It is important that your child's therapist be competent and experienced in dealing with your child's particular issue or problem.

Will I be asleep or unconscious?

The word hypnosis comes from the ancient Greek word "hypnos" meaning sleep, but it is mis-named. Hypnosis is NOT sleep. Sleep and hypnosis may seem similar since we may be relaxed and have our eyes closed (although not necessarily), but there are many differences. One main difference is that we tend to be in a relaxed state, but with heightened awareness! If a person were to fall asleep during a session, they would return to normal consciousness when asked to, or simply awaken after a short nap. They would feel refreshed, relaxed and would have no ill effects at all.

"I don't think I was hypnotized - I heard every word you said!"

Some people, after a session of hypnosis, don't believe that they were hypnotized at all. This likely comes from misconceptions about just what a "trance" really is. There are differences between the brain waves of people who are asleep and those who are in trance. In practice, people who are hypnotized often talk with the hypnotist, and can both answer and ask questions, hear everything that is said very clearly, and are perfectly well aware.

There is no mysterious feeling to being hypnotized and our minds are not taken over nor controlled. This expectation and perhaps a demand to have some mysterious experience beyond conscious control or awareness seems to leave some people disappointed and even denying they had any experience at all. These same people may actually have received substantial results and unconscious change.

Will I lose control of myself?

No, there is no loss of control. Hypnosis allows clients to be more focused and less distractible and more skillful in using their own mental abilities constructively. In this way, they can achieve more of their goals, and consequently, actually achieve more (not less) control of their personal comfort, health, and well-being. The "control" misconception appears to originate from stage hypnosis which actually involves people doing what they want to be doing in a social agreement to be entertaining.

Can I get stuck or trapped in the hypnotic state?

No. At any time a client can re-alert or choose to ignore suggestions. No one stays hypnotized indefinitely - you will always "come out" of trance within a short time.

Will hypnosis make me remember things accurately?

No. Hypnosis can improve our recall of events that we believe happened to us. But hypnosis is not a way to find out the truth (whatever that may be) about events that are in dispute. That is, under hypnosis you may re-experience events, but there is no guarantee that you are remembering them correctly. Hypnosis only assists the subject in recalling perceptions, not truths.

The International Hypnosis Institute (A Subsidiary of the International Wellness Institute) has a lot of exciting & amazing information on Hypnosis by   > > > Clicking Here < < <   Hypnosis is a great tool that helps millions of people in a very short period of time. You may have heard of amazing stories of people never smoking again after only one session or people losing weight using Hypnosis that were never able to lose weight before and keep it off - it's amazing the "miracles" that we have seen!

NLP which stands for Neuro Linguisttic Programming

NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a name that encompasses the three most influential components involved in producing human experience: neurology, language and programming. The neurological system regulates how our bodies function, language determines how we interface and communicate with other people and our programming determines the kinds of models of the world we create. Neuro-Linguistic Programming describes the fundamental dynamics between mind (neuro) and language (linguistic) and how their interplay affects our body and behavior (programming).

NLP is a pragmatic school of thought - an 'epistemology' - that addresses the many levels involved in being human. NLP is a multi-dimensional process that involves the development of behavioral competence and flexibility, but also involves strategic thinking and an understanding of the mental and cognitive processes behind behavior. NLP provides tools and skills for the development of states of individual excellence, but it also establishes a system of empowering beliefs and presuppositions about what human beings are, what communication is and what the process of change is all about. At another level, NLP is about self-discovery, exploring identity and mission. It also provides a framework for understanding and relating to the 'spiritual' part of human experience that reaches beyond us as individuals to our family, community and global systems. NLP is not only about competence and excellence, it is about wisdom and vision.

In Essence, All of NLP Is Founded On Two Fundamental Presuppositions:

1. The Map is Not the Territory. As human beings, we can never know reality. We can only know our perceptions of reality. We experience and respond to the world around us primarily through our sensory representational systems. It is our 'neuro-linguistic' maps of reality that determine how we behave and that give those behaviors meaning, not reality itself. It is generally not reality that limits us or empowers us, but rather our map of reality.

2. Life and "Mind" are Systemic Processes. The processes that take place within a human being and between human beings and their environment are systemic. Our bodies, our societies, and our universe form an ecology of complex systems and sub-systems all of which interact with and mutually influence each other. It is not possible to completely isolate any part of the system from the rest of the system. Such systems are based on certain 'self-organizing' principles and naturally seek optimal states of balance or homeostasis.

All of the models and techniques of NLP are based on the combination of these two principles. In the belief system of NLP it is not possible for human beings to know objective reality. Wisdom, ethics and ecology do not derive from having the one 'right' or 'correct' map of the world, because human beings would not be capable of making one. Rather, the goal is to create the richest map possible that respects the systemic nature and ecology of ourselves and the world we live in. The people who are most effective are the ones who have a map of the world that allows them to perceive the greatest number of available choices and perspectives. NLP is a way of enriching the choices that you have and perceive as available in the world around you. Excellence comes from having many choices. Wisdom comes from having multiple perspectives.

NLP is now in its third decade as a field of study and has evolved considerably since its beginnings in the mid 1970s. Over the years, NLP has literally spread around the world and has touched the lives of millions of people. Since the 1990's, a new generation of NLP has been developing. This form of NLP addresses generative and systemic applications and focuses on high level issues such as identity, vision and mission.

  Reika

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy", So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

An amazingly simple technique to learn, the ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve one's health and enhance the quality of life.

Its use is not dependent on one's intellectual capacity or spiritual development and therefore is available to everyone. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.

While Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended that one practice certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures.

Reiki is available from the International Wellness Institute by appointment. Please Click Here to contact the International Wellness Institute for further information.

  Chromotherapy (Color Therapy)

Color therapy, also known as Chromotherapy, is often facilitated in the office of Chromotherapy Practitioners or in healing rooms of alternative health practitioners. Color therapy is classified as a vibrational healing modality. Vibrational medicine incorporates the use of chi energies within living organisms such as plants, gemstones and crystals, water, sunlight, and sound.

Color is simply a form of visible light, of electromagnetic energy. All the primary colors reflected in the rainbow carry their own unique healing properties. The sun alone is a wonderful healer! Just imagine what life would be like without sunshine. It has been proven that lack of sunlight contributes to depression for some people.

Chromotherapy Practitioners trained in color therapy applies light and color in the form of tools, visualization, or verbal suggestion to balance energy in the areas of our bodies that are lacking vibrance, be it physical, emotional, spiritual, or mental.

Scientists, who have studied color and light extensively, recognize that colors bring about emotional reactions to individuals. Our reactions and attitudes to colors differ from person to person, which makes an interesting study in itself. Our attraction to certain colors may very well signal areas where we are imbalanced. Understanding why certain colors effect us favorably while others bring about negative feelings helps us along our healing journeys.

We all have our own fashion style, but did you realize your choice of colors may actually reveal more about you than just your tastes or that the colors you wear may even affect your moods? It is now accepted that color can be used to stimulate or inhibit certain behaviors.

Advertising executives are well aware that a product can have a completely different impact if the color of the packaging is changed. Psychologists have found that certain colors in our immediate environment can help us perform some tasks. For example, exercise is best performed in an environment of warm colors, such as reds and oranges, whereas the tranquil blues and greens are ideal for mental concentration.

Quite often the sayings in the English language have tapped into a deeper interpretation of the colors. Red with rage, green with jealousy, purple passion, feeling blue, he is yellow, are well known to most people. However, each color has a cornucopia of meanings associated with it.

Each color has positive attributes or truths and the opposites of these are challenges. For instance, the truth of blue symbolizes faith and communication. The challenge is a lack of faith, depression, and difficulty with speech. Conscious awareness of the colors you choose to wear can offer insight into potential change in your life.

For example; Illness of some kind can be indicated when a color that is out of character is worn frequently. If red is worn regularly it could point to a physical condition, blue an emotional imbalance, and yellow a nervous state.

Disease means that we are out of balance, color can help to re-balance and make us whole again. Red is good for improving circulation and orange has been found to be beneficial for children with autism. Green is useful for calming and balancing the heart, and is supposed to influence regeneration of cells and elimination of toxins. This is the basis of Color Therapy. Color healing was used in the temples of Heliopolis in Ancient Egypt, as well as in China and India. Hippocrates, the founder of modern day medicine, placed colored strips on cuts to aid in the healing process.

Subtle energy is produced by our body's energy anatomy, also referred to as our subtle anatomy. The body is surrounded by a vibrational field that is commonly referred to as the aura. The aura is an electromagnetic force field that surrounds all living things in both the animal and plant kingdom and interpenetrates the physical body. The force field shields and protects the body. Perhaps you can sometimes see a light around a person's head or you may sense somebody's mood. If so, you may be becoming aware of the human energy field that people call the Aura. The colors of the aura are a good indicator of the personality, health and spirituality.

The aura is multicolored and flows and moves with you, changing color with your moods, feelings and spiritual condition.

Disease and illness are physical disorders which have their roots in being blocked or stuck in energy flow of the body or in some cases, too free a flow, most often in or near vital organs. The flow is blocked, or stuck, or unbalanced, as a result of thought, which eventually works through the physical body as a pain or as an organic disturbance of some kind. This is the true nature of disease and illnesses and disorders to which humankind is prone.

The release of the healing powers within oneself depends upon this particular cleansing process which can be cleansed using Chromotherapy or Color Therapy.

Chromotherapy (Color Therapy) is available from the International Wellness Institute by appointment. Please Click Here to contact the International Wellness Institute for further information.

  Meditation

Despite all its popularity, today very few of us truly know what meditation is. Some regard meditation is the mental concentration on something, others consider that we meditate when we imagine something that gives us peace or satisfaction. All these methods are being with one goal to slow down and, eventually, completely stop the incessant activity of our minds. These exercises are not really meditation - they are substitutes for meditation because it is normally very difficult to stop our minds all-together. In reality, meditation is a state of thoughtless awareness. It is not an act of doing - it is a state of awareness. We either in this state or we are not, regardless of what we are doing in life. Truly, a man can be in meditation while doing his day's labors as another man can be very far from meditation while sitting in a lotus posture on the top of a mountain.

When we take a look at the various explanations of meditation, another thing we often see is that meditation is defined as taking a moment to sit quietly or to ponder. True meditation, however is much more than this. It is a state of profound, deep peace that occurs when the mind is calm and silent, yet completely alert. This is just the beginning of an inner transformation that takes us to a higher level of awareness. This enables us to fulfill our true human potential. The problem, of course, is how to achieve this state.

Meditation is not...

Concentration - Concentration is an effort to fix the attention on a particular object or idea for a long period of time. The techniques used ibn visualization are another type of concentration.

Loss of control - Sounds, voices, colors and involuntary movements have nothing to do with meditation or spirituality. These are symptoms of loss of awareness and loss of control over some parts of ourselves.

Exercises - Exercises, such as postures and breathing, do not constitute meditation. They may help establish some balance if under the guidance of a true master (a realized soul). Their practice without a true spiritual goal only leads to an imbalance in the right channel.

Mental effort - Thoughtless awareness is achieved through the raising of the Kundalini. To get rid of blockages that prevent her ascent, we use the hands and introspection but never mental effort (e.g., the continuous repetition of "I must stop thinking").

Why Meditation?

Meditation is seen by a number of researchers as potentially one of the most effective forms of stress reduction. While stress reduction techniques have been cultivated and studied in the West for approximately 70 years, the data indicates that they are not consistently effective.

Meditation however, has been developed in Eastern cultures and has a documented history of more than several thousand years. Eastern meditative techniques have been developed, trialed and refined over hundreds of generations with the specific intention of developing a method by which the layperson can regularly attain a state of mental peace and tranquility, ie. relief from stress. It is a strategy that can easily be adapted to the needs of clinicians and their patients in the West.

A US study for example, showed that a short course of behavior modification strategies that included meditation led to significantly fewer visits to physicians during the six months that followed. The savings were estimated at over $200 per patient . A study of insurance statistics showed that the use of medical care was significantly less for meditators compared to non-meditators.

Some Key Points About Meditation

Meditation can be an effective form of stress reduction and has the potential to improve quality of life and decrease healthcare costs.

Meditation is effortless and leads to a state of "thoughtless awareness" in which the excessive stress producing activity of the mind is neutralized without reducing alertness and effectiveness.

Authentic meditation enables one to focus on the present moment rather than dwell on the unchangeable past or undetermined future. There is little quality evidence comparing one meditation technique with another or meditation with relaxation techniques. The theoretical explanation for the effects of meditation and relaxation techniques is that the release of catecholamine's and other stress hormones are reduced and parasympathetic activity is increased.

Mediation is weaven into some of the International Wellness Institute Programs but if you would like to learn the Art of Meditation by itself, please Click Here to contact us.
